A Family Story

Founded by Anthony and Diane Hirsh in 1980, the second generation Sophia and Jason Hirsh, with their passion for rare gemstones, now lead the way forward.

WORLD TRAVELS

During the early 80s, Anthony and Diane would spend their time travelling to jewellery fairs in the UK and internationally. Their son Jason became involved in the business from a young age - attending and helping at the fairs on breaks from school.

A YOUNG DESIGNER

Jason even designed his first necklace and bracelet set at the age of ten and was very excited when Anthony had it created - even more so when it quickly sold!

PINK DIAMONDS

Quite the jewellery pioneer, Anthony was one of the first jewellers in the UK to introduce pink diamonds to Hirsh pieces in the mid 80s. They were relatively unheard of at the time, yet now they are one of the world's most sought-after gems that we still love to create with.

FIRST BOUTIQUE

Anthony and Diane opened the first Hirsh boutique in Hatton Garden, London, in the late 1980s. In fact, if you watch the 2000 film 'Snatch' by Guy Ritchie, you'll see the boutique in the film!

A MOVE TO MAYFAIR

In 2000, Anthony and Diane moved the boutique from Hatton Garden to the Burlington Arcade in Mayfair. This was a very exciting time for the business - even receiving a visit from the former Duchess of Cornwall.

ETHICAL SOURCING

By now, Jason, a GIA qualified gemmologist, was travelling the world sourcing the rarest gemstones, as well as visiting mines to ensure an ethical supply train - something he has always been passionate about.

SOPHIA

Sophia grew up in Switzerland and Sweden and has always had a passion for gemstones and jewellery, as well as a background in luxury goods. In the early 2000s, she moved to London to work for a Crown Jeweller. While working in London, she met Jason, and they were married in 2008. Sophia then joined the Hirsh family business as Managing Director, with Jason becoming Creative Director, as well as being responsible for ethically sourcing our diamonds and gemstones.

A TIME OF GROWTH

With Sophia at the helm, the business continued from strength to strength and in 2013 the boutique moved to a larger premises on Grafton Street, just by Bond Street, where the team also began to grow.

THE HOME OF HIRSH

In 2020 we celebrated our 40th anniversary by moving into our own townhouse on Conduit Street - the Home of Hirsh. This beautiful, five storey townhouse in the heart of Mayfair now houses our boutique, gem-viewing garden, private appointment suite, marketing and design, leather studio and jewellery atelier.

BRITISH CRAFTSMANSHIP

It has been so special to have our wonderful team under one roof. We especially enjoy taking our clients upstairs to the atelier to see their jewels being created and meet the talented craftsmen and women behind the pieces! We have always taken great pride in the excellence of British craftsmanship and the continued sharing of centuries old techniques.

HIRSH TODAY

Today, you'll often find Sophia at the townhouse - usually with her and Jason's beloved dog, Benny, except for when she and Jason are on a gem-sourcing trip or spending time with their family. Their youngest son has already begun designing jewellery!
