The Attributes Of A Coloured Diamond

Natural fancy coloured diamonds are our specialty. Before founding Hirsh in 1980, Anthony Hirsh worked with yellow diamonds whilst a director at Graff Diamonds. He built on his intimate knowledge of these gems by first purchasing pink and blue diamonds before their popularity exploded, and then expanding with orange and natural green diamonds.

When Jason Hirsh proposed to his wife and business partner he selected a rare, natural blue diamond to seal their love and future. Sophia, who is joint Managing Director, was enchanted and the union was made. She cherishes this rare stone with its unique shape and alluring colour. At Hirsh, we continue to use natural colour diamonds in our jewellery - as main stones or accent stones - to brighten and create unique wearable pieces.

Diamonds come in all the colours of the rainbow and every shade in between. Most get their colour through trace elements in their makeup. The saturation of these hues of colour is identified on a range of: Faint, Very Light, Light, Fancy Light, Fancy, Fancy Dark, Fancy Intense, Fancy Deep, Fancy Vivid. All of these have a beauty of their own and all are desirable – the rarest and most expensive however are those that are closer to being graded Vivid. Natural colour diamonds allow you to express yourself whilst maintaining the sparkle that diamonds are famous for.

We currently have in stock red, orange, green, blue, grey, pink, yellow and cognac diamonds. We also carry black diamonds if you are looking for a deep and dramatic contrasting piece. Our chameleon diamonds are also a must see. These diamonds turn completely from either green to orange or from green to yellow with heat and light, and then revert back to green when cool. This is a natural phenomenon and one of earth’s rare treasures.

We always have a selection of natural fancy colours in both our stunning designs and in loose gems, if you are looking to create a bespoke piece.
